A chemical peel is a procedure to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the production of new skin cells so that a smoother, more evenly pigmented, glowing layer of skin can appear. Peels are classified as light, medium or deep depending on the depth to which the skin is treated. An effective peel is not a “super exfoliation” that can be done at home. Superficial peels are for patients who do not wish to undergo a visible exfoliation and stronger peels are used for more dramatic results. Fine wrinkles can be improved considerably and patients with acne can see an improvement. The face, neck, cleavage, back, hands and arms can be peeled.
