Smoking has many affects on oral health. Increased plaque, tartar and staining can occur as well as furring of the tongue. Smoking reduces blood flow to the gums which is an indicator of the same affect on the heart tissue. Gums may recede and tooth movement and tooth loss may occur and even a “white spot” may develop indicating oral cancer. As part of your maintenance programme for a healthy mouth we regularly screen for oral cancer, which is easily treatable if detected early.
